The Royal Ancestry of Lucknow
Originating within the Persian courts and flourishing under the patronage of the Nawabs of Awadh, Chikankari remains a testament to Lucknow’s cultural heritage. Legend attributes its introduction to Empress Nur Jahan, whose affinity for semi-transparent textiles transformed simple muslin into an ethereal canvas of artistry. For centuries, our artisans have carried this legacy, ensuring every petal and paisley whispered in thread remains a living archive of royal Indian elegance.
Bakhiya: The Art of Shadows
We employ the Bakhiya or shadow stitch to define the delicate silhouettes of our garments. Intricately worked on the reverse side of the translucent fabric, it creates a soft, silken shadow on the surface that captures the true essence of Lucknow’s Chikankari heritage.
Murri: Rice Grain Precision
Our artisans master the Murri stitch to create minute, pear-shaped textures that resemble tiny rice grains. It is a sophisticated technique reserved for filling small petals and the hearts of flowers, ensuring every piece carries a refined sense of grace and hand-crafted precision.
Phanda: Sculptural Texture
To add depth and dimension, we use the Phanda, a circular knot stitch clustered together to mimic the beauty of pollen and buds. These small, sculptural knots provide a tactile richness that elevates the hand-embroidered canvas of each creation with a unique three-dimensional appeal.
